Inkjet Cartridge Care

Cartridge World stores carry more than 300 different premium inks and toners. This ensures that the ink we use to refill your inkjet cartridge works according to the specifications of your printer and helps you produce high quality documents.

After we’ve refilled your cartridge, follow these tips to keep your printer and cartridges in top condition. This will help you continue to save money in the long run.

  • Never let a cartridge run out of ink completely. Your inkjet will burn out if it continues to be used while the supply of ink is cut off. Always have a replacement cartridge on hand. If the cartridge is showing signs of running out (i.e. colour fading), gaps in print or the computer displays that the cartridge is empty, have it refilled or replaced immediately. The cartridge cannot be stored for an indefinite period.
  • Do not place any adhesive tapes over the print head. Chemical composition of adhesive tapes is harmful to the print head. Also on colour cartridges natural capillary action will cause the colours to cross contaminate. When you’re ready to bring it in, do not wrap in paper, always use the Cartridge World anti-static plastic bag .
  • It’s time to clean the print head when lines and/or missing dots form on your text or graphics. Do not touch the copper plate on the print head with your fingers. Use the printers cleaning cycle (refer to your printer manual). If this fails to clear the problem, contact us for the best solution.
  • Do not leave the cartridge in direct heat. This causes the ink to expand and leak.
  • Keep colour cartridges upright. The colours will cross contaminate if left on its side.
  • Implement 1 or 2 cleaning cycles before printing with your new or refilled cartridge. It is also recommended to print at least 2 test pages to settle the new cartridge. If you are not using the printer regularly, ensure a cleaning cycle or test print is performed once every week.

Special instructions for printers with fixed print heads.

  • Do not leave cartridges out for more than an hour before fitting a new/refilled cartridge. Print head jets dry out and block quickly. The same applies with empty cartridges left in the printer.
  • If printing performance is unsatisfactory, your print head may be blocked. Contact Cartridge World, we may be able to clear them. You’ll need to bring the whole printer into the store.
  • Regular use of your printer can avoid most problems.
